Optimize your web images automatically!

Ignite can automatically optimize your web images for you! Here's how...

Step 1: Open a file in Ignite
Create an image or import some ready made artwork or use the plugin to send your artwork to Ignite from your graphics application. The new image opens in Source view.

Step 2: Create an output file
Click on the New Output button and choose the type of file you want to create (GIF, JPEG, PNG or WBMP). We've chosen a to make a GIF here. Give it a name and click OK. The new output file will appear as a tab alongside your source file. Click on the tab for your new output file and you'll see what your image will look like as a GIF.

Step 3: Save that file!
All you have to do now is save the output file. Click the Save this output button on the Inspector in the Output file pane. Ignite has already made all the optimization adjustments you need. You can see it's choices in the GIF pane on the Inspector. Our new image is 5.5k in size.

Multiple outputs
We could easily have added a JPEG output file as well and Ignite would have automatically optimized this too. Then we could have saved both files together by clicking the Save outputs button on the toolbar (which allows you to save all your outputs at once) and we'd have a GIF version and a JPEG version of our original file to choose from.

Here's some of what Ignite will do for you automatically...

  1. Delete any unused colours in GIF palettes
Ignite will remove unused colours from the GIF palette, reducing the bit depth and the file size of your image.
  2. Minimize of bit depth and file size
Ignite will always use the minimum bit depth possible.
  3. Optimize animations
Ignite will remove unnecessary frames in a GIF animation and will choose the most appropriate restore type for each frame automatically, giving the smallest files without intervention from you. And of course, optimize the palette for you.
  4. Save static and animated files together
If your split images has parts which are animated Ignite will save the static images as static and the animations as animations.
  5. Select a JPEG compression level
Ignite will optimize your JPEGs automatically too, choosing the most effective level of compression.

If you want to control the optimization process Ignite gives all the options you need. Take a look at managing GIF optimization
